- "Northwood Through Time" by Eileen M Bowlt: A fire station was established in the Old Forge on Rickmansworth Road in the mid-1890s. It was manned by volunteers who kept fires in check until the official Rickmansworth Fire Brigade arrived. Northwood men who were members of the Rickmansworth Brigade opened a rival station near Oaklands Gate for a few years. The two were united by the time that the RNUDC took over fire services in 1908
